BAFTA-winning Celtic documentary on the Lisbon Lions returns to screens

The BBC are to re-air their BAFTA-winning documentary about the Lisbon Lions on the BBC Scotland channel at 8pm tonight.

The film details Celtic's quest to become the first British club to lift the European Cup and their date with destiny in Lisbon as Jock Stein's irresistible force took on Helenio Herrera's stubborn Inter Milan in the final.

First shown in 2017 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the unmatched feat, the hour-long film contains incredible footage from the time and current interviews with the surviving Lions.

Directed by lifelong Hoops fan John MacLaverty it was met with universal praise from fans young and old.

The BBC trailed the show on their website: "Fifty years after Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, we tell the amazing stories of the men who claimed it.

"All 11 team members came from within 30 miles of Celtic Park, and this evocative film weaves together the social and footballing history of that era in Glasgow.

"With beautiful, unseen archive footage, funny fan stories and moving testimony from Bertie Auld, Bobby Lennox, Jim Craig, John Clark, Willie Wallace, Rangers captain John Greig and from players’ families."
