BAFTA 2019: Ant McPartlin awkwardly joins Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby on stage as I'm A Celebrity wins best reality award

Ant McPartlin awkwardly joined Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby on stage as I'm A Celebrity won the award for Reality and Constructed Factual at the BAFTA TV Awards 2019.

The ITV reality series, which aired at the end of 2018, went ahead without Ant as he took time away from his TV commitments to focus on his recovery following his arrest for drink driving in March last year.

This lead to This Morning star Holly stepping in alongside Dec to present the 2018 series which was won by ex-football manager Harry Redknapp.

But at last night's BAFTA awards, Ant joined the rest of the crew and his fellow presenters as the jungle-based programme scooped the best reality award.

Holly, 37, appeared reluctant to take all the glory with Ant ushering her forward towards the podium whilst he took a spot at the back with the rest of the crew.

It was left to Dec, 43, to give the winners speech  and started by making a cheeky dig.

Turning to Holly he said: "Oh, you were in it weren't you?"

He then redeemed himself by thanking Holly for "helping out," throughout the series.

Dec told the star-studded crowd: "I'd like to thank Holly for helping me out last year, she did a fantastic job standing in for Ant who reluctantly come up here tonight.

"There he is, he's still part of the team so I wanted him up here to celebrate with us."

Viewers were, however, quick to point out the awkwardness of the celebratory moment.

"Ant being on stage is a bit awkward," commented one.

Another fumed: "Dec May as well have just patted Holly on the head. She didn't help you out. She was your co-host and was apart of the win in her own right. Silly man."

Though others were on hand to praise the television duo and welcome Ant's return.

A viewer tweeted: "Felt heart sorry for Ant when I'm a celebrity won he looked so awkward such a nice chap. You deserved to be up there. One bad year doesn't define a life time if good work."

Another said: "Why is everyone moaning Ant got up on stage, Dec clearly stated he went up reluctantly, you could tell he didn't want to be there. Get over it!"

"I loved the fact that @hollywills went up on stage for @imacelebrity winning the #BAFTATV ! And the fact that Ant was made to go up too! That’s what team work means! @antanddec"
