'Baffled' - Ian Wright slams controversial VAR decision during Leeds United vs Watford

Ian Wright has insisted Watford's disallowed equaliser should have stood which could have given them a point against Leeds United.

Diego Llorente's solitary first-half goal was enough to secure a first Premier League win of the campaign for the Whites.

It was a dominant display from Leeds who should have wrapped the game up long before Watford had the ball in the net.

Illan Meslier spilt a routine corner and the ball was bundled in by Christian Kabasele, only for the referee to adjudge the defender to have fouled the goalkeeper.

Whilst acknowledging Leeds should have been awarded a penalty for a foul on Daniel James in the first half, Wright was baffled by VAR's decision not to overturn the decision to disallow Kabasele's goal.

"Yes, they absolutely should have had a goal," Wright insisted on Match of the Day.

"Kabasele is fouled by Cooper, he grabs his shirt and then around his back, pulls him down.

"I don't see how that isn't clear and obvious once you have seen it back. It should been overturned, one million per cent.

"They have got that so wrong for Watford. They didn't play well but they could have come out of it with something and maybe built from that. I'm baffled."

Danny Murphy, meanwhile, highlighted Raphinha's performance as a real plus point.

"Today they were fortunate as Watford were very poor and Leeds made it difficult for themselves without converting some of these chances," Danny Murphy said.

"The energy and desire from the midfield to get involved making these runs.

"Raphinha was man of the match, what a player he is, coming in and then doing work off the ball too.

“James, he gives them the extra energy and press. He has got superb attitude and desire to do the right things.

“He could have capped off his performance with a goal as well. They got their reward for brave play, committing men forward to try and win the game. Pleasing for the manager because the last couple of weeks you could see he's been getting frustrated."
