Baffled gardai pull over man transporting mattress with duct tape amid Covid-19 lockdown

Baffled gardai pulled over a man transporting a mattress on the roof of his car amid a national lockdown.

The driver had only secured the mattress with duct tape in the bizarre incident in Clondalkin, Co Dublin on Wednesday.

Officers also reminded the motorist that Ireland is currently in the midst of a national lockdown, with only essential travel advised.

A garda spokesman wrote on Twitter: "Clondalkin RPU stopped this car yesterday, driver was moving a mattress but only had it secured with duct tape, we didn’t allow him to proceed until he called for alternative transport.

"We also advised him on recent Govt instructions."

And the unusual incident left many users on social media in stitches.

One wrote: "Did he give you some pillow talk excuse when you stopped him?"

While another added: "Don't you know duct tape is one of the strongest materials in the universe??"

And a third user said: "I hope he was given time for the advice to bed in....."
