'Badly parked' cars in Nottingham disturbing bus services as residents slam 'unfair' behaviour

Badly parked cars are causing problems for those living near a Nottingham flat complex. Those living in and around Winchester Court, which is located on Chestnut Walk, just off Mansfield Road near Woodthorpe, say they have been badly impacted.

Nottingham City Transport has announced three times on Twitter that due to the roads being blocked because of cars, the NCT number 40 has been unable to serve Briarwood or the Winchester Court Flats.

Some living in the area have described it as ‘unfair' and say it is only happening because drivers feel they can get away with it. A lot of people in the area rely on bus services to get around, which means services being delayed or cancelled can have a big impact.

Alan Lee, 62 said: “There’s people who need to get to hospital appointments who rely on the 40 so drivers should be fined for parking badly, they do it here because they can’t get caught and know they can get away with it.”

Alan, who is now retired and from Mapperley continued: “If people are disrupting public transport they should get a fine more for the inconvenience it would have caused.”

Monica Castillo, 45, lives in St Ann’s. Monica said: “It’s happened before when I’ve wanted the bus and I didn’t know why it was delayed or what was happening.”

Monica continued: “People should be careful where they park, I can’t drive so I get buses and walk but if buses can’t get down here I’ll be late or have to walk home.”

Amanjeet Kaur, 36 lives in Sherwood. The nurse has shared for people doing home visits at Winchester Court before.

She said: “People can park badly around here which is unfair. There’s a lot of people that rely on the buses who live here and if they can’t get by then they can’t go out.

“You can’t expect elderly people to walk up past Briarwood Court to the main road, they just can’t.” Amanjeet continued: “I personally have always been able to get through but I would be frustrated if I couldn’t.”
