Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu as the political scene in Punjab heats up ahead of Assembly polls due early next year.

A day after AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal announced that if the party formed the next government in the State, it will give up to 300 units of free electricity to every household, Mr. Badal asked Mr. Kejriwal to explain why he had not extended the 300 units per bill cycle free power facility in Delhi, where his government is in power.

Mr. Badal alleged that Mr. Kejriwal was trying to deceive Punjabis. “Kejriwal is in Delhi and cannot be held accountable for the promises made to Punjabis. He should tell which AAP leader in Punjab will take responsibility for fulfilling the promises being made by him,” Mr. Badal said in Amritsar.

Mr. Badal also hit out at former Congress minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, terming him as a “misguided missile”, which was “not under control and could hit in any direction, even himself”. Mr. Badal said Punjab did not want a misguided person like him and that the State need “one who thinks about the State’s development”.

Mr. Sidhu tweeted in response, “Guided and aimed at you to destroy your corrupt businesses ... Until your Sukh Vilas built on Punjab’s ruins is not turned into a Public School & Public Hospital to serve Punjab’s poor, I won’t relent !!”
