'Bad' lorry and car crash closes southbound M90 towards Edinburgh, causing rush hour tailbacks

A lorry has reportedly collided with two cars on the southbound M90 in Fife at Masterton, bringing traffic to a standstill at rush hour, and causing misery for commuters heading from Fife to Edinburgh via the Queensferry Crossing.

At about 5pm on 9 December, Fife travel site Fife Jammers posted:

"2 cars vs lorry smash on the m90 down to the queensferry crossing just past amazon heading southbound.

"Traffic at a standstill. No emergency services there yet. Looks a pretty bad one. Hope everyone’s okay!"

One person shared this photo of the immobile traffic (Facebook)

And at about 6.15pm they updated the message, saying: "Still worth avoiding, from J3 Dunfermline down to Rosyth."

Another person in the thread said that one of the cars involved - and worst affected - is a Vauxhall Corsa, with the front bumper 'almost gone'.

Five fire engines and two ambulances were seen rushing to the scene of the crash.

Northbound traffic was also slow as people slowed to look at the accident.

The southbound M90 was completely closed as police and emergency services worked to move the vehicles to the hard shoulder and clean up the debris.

Lanes reopened by 5.17pm, but there was a major knock on effect with long queues.
