Bad Bunny Issues Public Apology to J Balvin in Mexico, Ending One of Latin Music's Biggest Feuds

"An early Christmas present." That's how fans of J Balvin and Bad Bunny described the very public reconciliation of two of the biggest names in Latin music on social media. With hugs and public declarations on stage at the GNP Seguros Stadium, José and Benito moved many and left them speechless.

J Balvin was the final guest on the Mexican leg of Bad Bunny's "Debí tirar Más Fotos " tour. During his eight concerts in Mexico City, he had already been joined by Feid, Grupo Frontera, Julieta Venegas, and Natanael Cano. A much larger number of stars had performed with Bad Bunny during his residency in Puerto Rico, and even more appeared at the now-famous Casita Rosada, including some with whom Benito had had very public feuds.

Among the visitors at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico were Maluma and Ryan Castro, two Colombian artists very close to Balvin. Fans were hoping he would be the final guest, but they were disappointed.

In fact, many thought that if a reunion ever happened, it would perhaps be at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and only because "I Like It," the song by the two stars with Cardi B, is the only bilingual song by Rabbit and known to the American audience.

But... what happened between J Balvin and Bad Bunny?

The truth hasn't been publicly revealed, but it's assumed to be related to a feud between Residente and J Balvin. The dispute resulted in one of the most brutal diss tracks in Latin music history, released in March 2022.

Bad Bunny and Residente had grown very close during the protests against the Puerto Rican government in 2019. That year, Benito also strengthened his relationship with J Balvin and together they released their highly successful album Oasis, whose single La Canción remains one of the most popular of both artists.

When Residente and J Balvin got together, Bad Bunny seemed to take sides, like the friends of divorced people: his fellow countryman. If anything more happened between them, we'll probably never know. Until Sunday night in Mexico, Benito had only alluded to the topic in a verse of his 2023 song "Thunder and Lightning ."

There the Rabbit sings:
"You've seen me, I'm always with the same people. While you guys are friends with everyone like Balvin."

For his part, Balvin broke his silence on the matter last week when he spoke about Bad Bunny in a conversation with Spanish content creator Ibai. In it, he admitted to having felt envious of his Puerto Rican colleague's success.

Looking back, his words were an important step forward, although we don't know if they led to reconciliation or if he said them after speaking with Benito.

When introducing him on stage in Mexico City, Bad Bunny said that he had already spoken with J Balvin and apologized to him.

"I admire you... the past is the past... we always apologize... I wish you all the best, brother" - J Balvin

"I love you very much... I apologized a long time ago... we were waiting for the perfect moment to share the stage." -Benito

He even acknowledged the boost that the Colombian gave to his career when he was starting out.

They sang together, hugged, and set an example of two men acknowledging their mistakes and declaring their mutual admiration in the most public way possible.

Was it a Christmas miracle? It's clear why it feels that way to fans of Spanish-language urban music. For everyone else, it's a good lesson and perhaps a taste of what's to come at the Super Bowl.
