Bad breath revealed as the biggest dating turn-off on International Kissing Day

Grab your partner and pucker up because today is International Kissing Day.

Whether it’s in a pub or at a bus stop, a smooch can seal a date – and new research has shown the biggest turn-offs when going in for the kill.

App The Inner Circle revealed a quarter of people are fearful their date will have bad breath and 40% said that it would be an absolute deal-breaker.

The data collected from 1,006 users found men are far more willing to forgive a lack of minty freshness with a massive 71% saying they don’t worry about their breath, compared to 48% of women.

Other cardinal dating sins included:

  • If they use their phone during the date
  • If they mention their ex-partner
  • If they talk about money
  • If they don’t offer to pay
  • If they mention their mother too much, and
  • If they lied about their height

So if you’re planning on puckering up with a partner, these no-nos are important to take heed of so the date goes down well.

App founder David Vermeulen said: “A good first kiss is everything. It tells your date you have a great connection and could be a good long-term partner.

“If you’ve hit it off with a potential match, don’t risk ruining it because you forgot a Tic Tac.”

International Kissing Day was set up in 2006 for the sole purpose of expressing love around the world.

One of the most surprising things about the holiday is 5% of people over the age of 45 are locking lips at least 31 times a week.

And those behind it have said young lovers in the 18 to 24 age group are making out an average 11 times each week, while 5% of people aged over 45 are managing more than a staggering 31 passionate kisses each week.

The biggest tips from the experts are to make sure your lips are soft, brush your teeth and most importantly – find a willing partner.
