Bad Brains’ guitarist Dr Know is in hospital on life support, according to reports.
On Sunday 1 November, word started to spread about the health condition of Dr Know, real name Gary Miller. The Dean Ween Group said in a Facebook post: “just got word that dr know from bad brains (gary) is on life support in the hospital.”
Although there is no specific information surrounding his condition, Bad Brains shared the following message on Facebook on 3 November:
The Bad Brains family ask that you please keep Gary (Dr Know) Miller in your thoughts and prayers. The family respectfully ask that their privacy be honoured during this time and very much appreciate all the great energy that is being sent their way.
Artists have since been showing support for the veteran hardcore musician, such as the Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle and Living Colour. The message from The Dean Ween Band concluded: “Pray for him, or at least smoke a huge spliff and keep him in your thoughts. One of my fave guitarists of the era — and always.”
Although the hardcore founder’s last album was released back in 2012, Miller recently performed at the Black N’ Blue festival in May, while Bad Brains also joined the Foo Fighters on stage in July for a rendition of the Regulator.
