Airplane food doesn’t exactly have the best reputation, but one woman was left stunned after she forked out almost £5 for a particularly sorry-looking sandwich.
Author Liz Nugent shared a photo of the snack to Twitter, explaining that her friend had bought it during a Ryanair flight.
The image shows what appears to be a long, plain roll (no butter or sauce), topped with what can only be described as a couple of measly shreds of meat.
In her caption, Nugent wrote: “My pal [Aimee Woods] paid €5.50 (around £4.70) for this ‘bacon sandwich’ @Ryanair today. I’m trying to figure out if it qualifies.”

The writer joked that it was “ certainly a culinary experience”, as scores of commentators voiced their incredulity at the paltry meal.
One concerned Twitter user could barely believe their eyes, replying: “This cannot be real.”

While another hailed it as the “world’s saddest looking sandwich.”

Meanwhile, fellow author Ruth Ware replied with this highbrow joke:
It's like a thought experiment in how far the concept of "bacon sandwich" can be whittled down before the thing falls apart. I'm enjoying Ryan Air's new role as avante garde philosophers.

In response to someone asking if she’d sent it back, Woods admitted that she had still eaten it.
She was also quick to point out that she’d had no issues with any other aspect of her journey with the airline.
“I had a lovely flight and the cabin crew were class,” she tweeted. “I just found the sandwich humorous and slightly overpriced.
“Still ate it though.”
I also had a lovely flight and the cabin crew were class 👌🏻 I just found the sandwich humorous and slightly overpriced. Still ate it though 😂 I doubt people will book a flight based on the quality of a sandwich to be fair 😂
