Backyard Baseball ’97, the childhood favorite that introduced players to icons like Pablo Sanchez, is now available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 for $9.99.
This marks the first time the original version has made its way to consoles, nearly 30 years after its debut on PC. The remaster was rebuilt without the original source code, brought back to life through reverse engineering by Mega Cat Studios in collaboration with a dedicated fan community.
The game’s return is part of a broader revival led by Playground Productions, which acquired the Backyard Sports catalog in 2022. The console release signals a new chapter for the franchise as it reintroduces itself to longtime fans and a new generation of players.
More is on the way, with Backyard Baseball ‘01 slated for release on Steam and mobile later this summer. This fall, Backyard Football ‘99 will follow, featuring kid versions of NFL legends like Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice and Dan Marino.
