Backlash as mum buys all Kevin the Carrot soft toys at Aldi store angering parents

A mum has hit back after managing to buy all the Kevin the Carrot and friends soft toys in her local Aldi store - a move which sparked a backlash.

The shopper was able to pick up one Kevin & Animal Friends Set, one Plush Christmas Footballer Set, a Katie the Carrot, and a Kevin the Carrot - which are highly sought after in the build-up to Christmas.

There was huge demand for the toys, which were released on Thursday, and the mum's good fortune did not go down well with everyone, MyLondon reports.

The soft toys are so popular that more than 700,000 people queued online, and hundreds outside stores from the early hours.

Kevin the Carrot is Aldi's Christmas character, who features in the 2022 advert.

Taking to Facebook, the shopper initially wrote: "Totally forgot about the Kevin release today but managed to get all of them at 11am in Darlington." The shopper then updated her post after fellow Kevin the Carrot lovers were unable to bag a soft toy.

She wrote: "Enjoy your Carrots and Co all you wonderful people in the club!!! All the haters enjoy your lumps of coal!! Never did I think this post would cause so much drama, I was simply letting people know that my local store had plenty in stock for those who wanted them."

Her post received hundreds of comments from shoppers who were divided over how many of the plush toys she purchased. One jumped to her defence, writing: "Some right miserable people on this page. If it doesn’t interest you scroll on. You don’t want then don’t buy. People need to stop dictating what people should and shouldn’t buy."

A second added: "Don’t understand the Kevin mania but good on ya shame people think you need to explain yourself to them."

A third shopper commented: "Good for you. I hope your child enjoys these. I don't have a clue why people have to make judgemental comments. Merry Christmas."

Meanwhile, others posted pictures of all the Kevin the Carrot and friends toys they had got their hands on, writing: "Ohhh I must be bad like you." A few Aldi shoppers weren't so pleased to hear the woman had purchased every version of the in-demand toy.

"Am I being the grump and waiting to hear people are short of money but spent loads on soft toys. What does that say to our children and what are you setting your self up for. Child not happy if you haven’t got all the characters from a film," said one.

"How? I could only buy 2 and they wouldn’t even let me buy 1 more. I have 3 children all that wanted one so I had to leave the store with one kicking off and driving to a different Aldi," said a second. And a third wrote: "How do you store all these soft toys. What is so good about these? I’m curious."
