Back to work: Searches for homes near Nottinghamshire railway stations peak

When Boris said 'work from home' we did, and many house movers considered moving out of the city in what some termed 'a race for more space'.

Now the directive is to return to the office, and once again this potential change in working environment has been reflected in home buyers' thinking, as those seeking out property close to a railway station appears to be increasing.

Nottingham station saw an increase in buyer searches of 14 percent as workers got ready for the commute to the office, according to search data.

Figures released by Rightmove showed that homes close to Newark North Gate station witnessed even more of a boost with searches from June to August with this criteria having increased by 17 percent.

Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s director of property data, said: "More people are starting to return to the office for at least a few days a week, and so quick routes into major cities are rising up the priority list again.

"Though some stations are always popular, the notable increase from June to August suggests the growing importance of the morning commute for those who don’t work locally.

"While the demand to relocate or search for more space has by no means gone away, the numbers suggest that this will need to be balanced with easy transport access on office days, which has understandably been lower on the agenda for many over the last eighteen months.”

While Nottingham railway stations saw an uplift in numbers of those searching from homes nearby, some areas witnessed significant jumps. In Chelmsford, for instance, searches more than doubled making it the location with the biggest jump.

Eight of the top 10 stations outside of London that have seen the biggest increase in buyer searches are all within an hour train commute from a major city.

While Nottingham didn't make the top ten, stations here will get you into London in around one hour and 32 minutes from Nottingham station to London St Pancras, depending upon the time of travel, and in as little as one hour 15 minutes from Newark Northgate station to London Kings Cross.
