Back to the Pub campaign launched in Nottingham with 'use it or lose it' message

Nottingham drinkers are being urged to get down their local during October in a Support Your Local Pub campaign.

CAMRA said the economic damage of the coronavirus pandemic is continuing and local breweries and pubs have been heavily hit.

Even though pubs have reopened since lockdown, the new rule of six and social distancing is impacting on business.

So in a bid to champion the local boozer, the real ale organisation will be giving out prizes and certificates to real ale drinkers who back the campaign.

Drinkers simply need to visit a minimum of 15 different pubs, recording the name of the pub, date of visit, cask ale tried and the unique reference number given to each participating pub.

The Cricketers Rest, in Kimberley, The Embankment in Nottingham and the Poppy and Pint in Lady Bay are amongst those which have signed up so far.

Steve Westby, Nottingham CAMRA chairman said “ Local pubs have experienced a very difficult time, being closed during lockdown and now in many cases since reopening suffering a significant drop in trade.

"We feel that it is important to do all we can to help get them back on their feet, to avoid suffering yet more pub closures. Our campaign is just one way of encouraging individuals to get back to the pub ”

Drinkers will be entered into a draw where they can win prizes such as bottles of beer from local breweries - and they will receive a 'pub hero' certificate celebrating 15, 30 or 45 visits.

Since lockdown a number of pubs have closed across Notts. Amongst them are the Fox and Crown at Newark and the White Lion in Brinsley.

Branch secretary Andrew Ludlow said: "Please use your pub. If you don't you could lose it.

"Pubs are Covid-secure, with social distancing. We are encouraging people to see what a pleasant experience they still are."

Pubs are being urged to take part by displaying the Your Pub Needs You poster. So far 25 have signed up but CAMRA is hoping to attract 200.

Castle Rock spokesman Lewis Townsend said: "We are pleased to be part of the CAMRA Support Your Local Campaign. We have been vocal about the importance of pubs for over 40 years, and now is a time where that importance can’t be stressed enough.

"Castle Rock pubs, along with a number of others, are ran by extremely committed people who have worked hard to ensure they are as safe as they can be, and we would humbly reiterate that where you feel comfortable and able to do so, please continue to support them and follow their guidelines. Remember, your money doesn’t just help the pub, but also local breweries, cider makers and wineries plus bakeries, fruit and veg growers, butchers and more.”

Pubs can get on board the campaign by contacting info@nottinghamcamra.org
