'Back to the Future' Day, Oct. 21, 2015: Beyond Cubs, Jaws 19, Pepsi Perfect

Oct. 07--The fact we're coming up on Oct. 21, 2015 -- the date Marty McFly arrived in the future in 1989's "Back to the Future Part II" -- isn't all about the Cubs winning the World Series.

Universal Pictures, which plans to release special commemorative Blu-Ray and DVD sets of the "Future" trilogy on what's been dubbed "Back to the Future" Day, has produced a trailer for the film Marty saw advertised shortly after arriving from 1985.

That would be "Jaws 19," the follow-up we're told to such epics as "J.A.W.S. 7," in which "Cyber Jaws made you afraid to log on," and "Jaws 14," in which "a new era in terror began" as "Jaws started a family."

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the multiplex in your DeLorean.

But wait, there's more: Reston, Va., a town near Washington, D.C., says it will rename itself Hill Valley after the hometown of the McFly family, Doc Brown and Biff Tannen from Oct. 21 to 25, which coincides with its local film festival.

Pepsi looks to put out limited edition bottles resembling those of Pepsi Perfect, seen in the trilogy's middle film. Only 6,500 of the collectibles are planned, with 1,500 handed out during New York Comic Con to people who dress as Marty McFly.

Details on how to buy the remaining collectibles -- sold online for $20.15 each, far cheaper than the $50 mentioned in "Back to the Future Part II" -- will be released on Pepsi's social media sites as Oct. 21 approaches.

Pepsi has even produced a mock ad for Pepsi Perfect aligned with the "Back to the Future" timeline.

Theater chain AMC reportedly will have Oct. 21 screenings of the three "Back to the Future" films and Amazon is streaming them this month for Prime Video members.

Nike earlier announced this year it was trying to produce self-lacing shoes as seen in the trilogy, but it's not clear whether satisfactory progress has been made. It may turn out to be as elusive as a real-life hoverboard.
