Back to school in Scotland public announcement today - when it's on and where you can watch it

The Scottish Government will make a final decision on the reopening of schools this summer today.

Education Secretary John Swinney will confirm whether children will return to classrooms on August 11 - less than two weeks from today.

The Deputy First Minister's statement to the Scottish Parliament will take place at around 12.20pm and can be watched online at the Facebook page here or on Scottish Parliament TV here.

If the Government gives the go-ahead for schools to reopen after summer holidays, it will mean a return to full-time school teaching for primary and secondary school pupils. The alternative is a blended learning model of home and classroom learning.

Full details of the guidance will be published after Nicola Sturgeon 's latest lockdown review tomorrow afternoon.

On Tuesday, John Swinney said he was"confident" that schools would be able to reopen, stating: "I believe at this point we should be confident that our schools can reopen safely and our children can return to learning with their peers and teachers in school."
