Back to business for London's theatre and music

For the first time since the second world war, every performance in London's West End was cancelled yesterday. With police advising people to stay out of the capital, most other venues cancelled live performances yesterday evening. Today however, London's vibrant cultural life is slowly returning to normal. The Barbican's Mostly Mozart festival season will begin as scheduled tonight; the arts venue have decided to make the performance - of Haydn's Creation, free of charge (space permitting), and will refund ticket holders.

Events at the South Bank Centre will be continuing as advertised, although the 7pm performance of Shell Connections will not go ahead.

A recent update on the Society of London theatre's site confirms that all West End theatres will resume normal service today, although performances will be preceeded by a minute's silence as a mark of respect to the victims of yesterday's attacks.

Refunds will be given for cancelled performances - check with the venue. Many pop gigs have been rescheduled. Contact the venue or the promoter for details.

The Prodigy have rescheduled their Brixton Academy date to Sunday August 7. Nate James's Shepherd's Bush Empire show will now be on Wednesday August 5, at the same venue. Kathryn Williams's St James Piccadilly gig will be on Friday July 15. This weekend's Queen and REM concerts at Hyde Park (tonight, and Saturday, respectively) have been postponed until Friday July 15 and Saturday July 16.
