'Back to Alonso' - Chelsea fans react to concerning Ben Chilwell injury update

Chelsea fans have been reacting to a concerning update on the fitness of Ben Chilwell from the England camp.

England today confirmed Chilwell has been sent back to Chelsea along with Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, the Blues left-back missing out on Wednesday's Nations League clash with Denmark due to a 'pre-existing foot injury', according to Sky Sports.

That's despite a positive update from Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate earlier in the week.

"Ben reported to the hotel today," the England boss said after the Belgium game. "He did a training session on his own.

"We've just got to assess where he's at because he hasn't been able to train through the week.

"So, there's a little bit of assessment needed over the next couple of days but he is with the group now."

Since then, Chillwell has been deemed not fit enough to feature on Wednesday due to a foot injury, also missing the win over Belgium with the illness which was not coronavirus-related.

Chelsea fans have been reacting to the news on social media.

Here is what they have had to say.

Chilwell has only featured in one Premier League game for Chelsea so far since his move from Leicester City, initially spending time out with injury following his arrival.

Chelsea fans are predictably concerned to see Chilwell released back to Stamford Bridge, but given the decision is believed to be precautionary, the full-back may yet still be in contention for the clash with Southampton on Saturday.
