'Back themselves' - Derby and ex-Aston Villa defender on Bolton Wanderers' key Morecambe clash

Bolton Wanderers will back themselves to pick up three points in this weekend's key promotion clash against Morecambe after their recent record in League Two.

That's the view of Derby County defender Curtis Davies.

Bolton sit in the automatic promotions spots prior to heading to the Mazuma Stadium this Saturday with three games left to go of the regular season.

And it will pit third against fourth in the division with the battle for promotion showing no signs of letting up.

Wanderers are only a point ahead of the Shrimps as things stand and know that victory over the Lancashire side will take them four points clear of Derek Adams' side and could be a huge step towards securing automatic promotion back to League One.

Should Bolton taste defeat, then Morecambe would leapfrog them in the table by two points with only two matches of the campaign to go.

The Shrimps have won their last three games on the bounce - but Wanderers go into the match in great form having only lost two of their last 19 games.

This included a 14 match unbeaten run which took them from 19th in the division and into the race for promotion back to League One.

And despite Morecambe's recent form, speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show on Quest, former Aston Villa defender Davies believes the run which has taken Bolton into this position should give them all the belief they need to pick up three points and take a big step towards securing promotion.

He said: "It's head to head, if they win that game they've pretty much secured their place I believe for promotion.

"It's going to be really difficult but they've only lost two games in the last 19, so whatever Morecambe have done recently, I'm sure Bolton will back themselves to win that game."
