Seung-gi makes a successful return
Competition in showbiz is intense. Things can change very quickly. This is a worry for male Korean stars. Since all of them have to do two years of military service, they can’t be sure that they’ll still be popular when they come back.
Lee Seung-gi shows it can be done. Since completing his military service, he has starred in the Netflix drama, A Korean Odyssey and hosted the show, All the Butlers. Both were well-received by the viewing public.Seung-gi began his showbiz career as a singer, releasing his first single "Because You're My Girl" in 2004. He rose to fame in 2009 with the award-winning hit, “Will You Marry Me?" as well as his breakthrough role as actor in the high-rating TV drama, Brilliant Legacy.
Recently, the star was back in Thailand to meet fans at Lee Seung-gi Fan Meeting in Bangkok on April 8. At Ultra Arena Hall, Show DC, the 31-year-old performer appeared on stage in a smart black suit and welcomed his fans by singing “Because You're My Girl.” The event featured renditions of his hits “Return” and “Unfinished Story,” fun games with fans and cake decoration. During the interview section, he talked about his experiences on A Korean Odyssey and life in the army. Here are some highlights.

Why did you accept the role of Son Oh-gong in A Korean Odyssey?
Seung-gi: After reading the script, I felt that he’d be a really fun character to play.
Can you tell us more about Oh-gong’s flamboyant coat?
Seung-gi: Oh-gong is an immortal who is kicked out of heaven. He has the fire of anger inside him and he has to keep it covered with a coat. We actually had two coats made - one for me and one for the stuntman. The feathers fell off easily. During one action scene, some feathers went into my mouth.
What do remember most about making the show?
Seung-gi: We filmed during winter and it was freezing. But I’d just finished military service. So out of pride, I didn’t wear heat-tech clothing. I almost died!
What was it like to work with Yook Sung-jae?
Seung-gi: He’s like a brother. He looked up to me at first. But when I wouldn’t stop talking about my experiences as a soldier, he found a different role model. [Laughs.]
Did your time in the army change you in any way?
Seung-gi: I used to be very careful when getting to know new people. Now, I’m more relaxed.
