Bachie, Willekes named to Bednarik Award watch list

Like migratory birds flocking north indicating the arrival of summer, college football watch list season, which starts today, signifies the pending arrival of our sweet, sweet game of college football.

Joe Bachie and Kenny Willekes are the first of many Spartans to be named to a particular watch list. This one: the Bednarik Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club.

The Bednarik Award has been around since 1995 and is named after Chuck Bednarik, a former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both Bachie and Willekes were All-Big Ten last season, with Willekes taking home the Defensive Lineman of the Year award.
