Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach agreed to cooperate for the success of the Tokyo Olympics during a meeting at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday.

Regarding novel coronavirus measures, Suga said: "It is essential for the success of the Games for all parties concerned to take appropriate action. I hope that the IOC, as the organizer of the Games, will make every effort to ensure this."

Bach reaffirmed the commitment of the Olympic community, promising to implement measures to avoid bringing "any risks to the Japanese people."

Bach also said that 85% of the participating athletes and almost 100% of the IOC members and staff were "vaccinated or immune."

After the meeting, Bach told reporters that he hopes the Japanese people will give a warm welcome to the athletes who have worked hard for many years.
