Bacchus Marsh aged care residents return negative coronavirus tests

Grant Lodge went into lockdown after a worker tested positive to coronavirus on May 6, 2020.

Residents at a Victorian aged care facility where a staff member tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week have been given the all-clear.

The employee of the Grant Lodge facility in Bacchus Marsh, west of Melbourne, had shown no symptoms and was tested last Saturday during the state's testing blitz.

Tina Turner, whose mother lives at the home, said she was very relieved to find out the residents had been cleared.

"Mum was given the all-clear, so that was brilliant news," Ms Turner said.

"Mum's 70 this year and she's not in good health, so I know she wouldn't be able to fight the virus.

"If she had have been in contact with someone, she [could] have unwittingly passed it on herself."

Staff in isolation

The Djerriwarrh Health Service said it was closely monitoring staff who had been in direct contact with the infected worker.

"All of these employees have tested negative, and remain in isolation at home for the standard 14 days incubation period," the organisation said in a statement.

"They will be tested again after that before returning to work."

The health service said it was still waiting for the final results of some employees, but said it was highly unlikely they would have been exposed to the virus.

Grant Lodge has said staff are continuing to follow strict infection control measures, including wearing full personal protective equipment

Residents have remained in their rooms when possible.

Ms Turner said she hoped her mother understood why family had not been to visit.

"It doesn't mean we don't love her," she said.

"It just means that we can't."

Ms Turner said she had asked the staff how the other residents were coping.

"They said they were telling them — it's whether or not [the residents] hold the information, because so many have medical conditions or Alzheimer's," she said.
