Baby snowy owl has a hoot working the till and card machine at sanctuary

A snowy owl just four weeks old has a hoot working the till and card machine at its sanctuary.

The still-unnamed baby, whose dark feathers will not turn white till adulthood, is popular with children at the Scottish Owl Centre in Whitburn, West Lothian.

It helps the infant get used to people before it leaves for a new home in a few weeks.

Snowy owls, made famous by Hedwig in Harry Potter, live up to 28 years.

Senior keeper Tristan Williams said: “It’ll be with us for a few more weeks before it goes to a new home and mum and dad will stay here.

“We’ve kept snowy owls here since we started.

“They’re very popular with visitors because they’re so different from the other owls.

“They’re white and black like the snow and rock and are whiter than polar bears.”
