Baby in incubator dies after oxygen tank explodes in back of ambulance

A three-month-old baby died after an oxygen tank exploded in the back of an ambulance, it has emerged.

The tot was in an incubator in the emergency vehicle when the tragedy happened.

It is believed the youngster, named locally as Rojin, was left behind in the confusion as her mum and the paramedics ran from the flames.

The raging fire broke out on the Trans-European Motorway, in Istanbul, Turkey.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but the youngster could not be saved.

According to local media, distraught mother Necmiye S was inconsolable after the incident and needed to be sedated by paramedics.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, she said: "Suddenly, something happened and fire shot out of the back.

"Paramedics got out and I also jumped out of the ambulance.

"The paramedics could not get in to save my baby and ran away.

"There were three people in there with my daughter, but when the fire started there was no one."

A police investigation has been launched.
