A baby has died at a house on the Wirral this morning, police have said.
The unnamed girl was pronounced dead at the scene, the force confirmed.
Officers and ambulance medics were sent to Birkenhead , Merseyside, to answer a 999 call that suggested a child was unwell.
Emergency services rushed to the house in Dundonald Street shortly before 11am, report the Liverpool Echo .
An investigation has now been launched by police to establish the cause of death - as is normal in such tragic situations.

Ambulance vehicles and a police car were still parked in the street at 12.15pm and a small number of people had gathered.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that officers are in Birkenhead this morning following the sudden death of a child.
"At 10.45am, emergency services were called to reports of a baby girl unwell at a house in Dundonald Street, and who was sadly pronounced deceased."
He added: "Officers remain at the scene and a detailed examination of the circumstances will be carried out to establish the cause of death as per normal force procedure."

North West Ambulance Service confirmed that two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an advance paramedic were in attendance.
A spokesperson said they were called to an address in Dundonald Street, Birkenhead at 10:41 am and remain at the scene.
