Baby girl born with three teeth to utter amazement of parents and doctors

A baby girl has been born with three teeth - to the shock of her parents.

The doctors and midwives were heard to shout 'she's got teeth' as little Gracie arrived into the world in Blackpool, Lancs.

Steve Fulton, 35, and Maria Coyle, 31, were told newborns with teeth are a rare phenonenon.

The Blackpool couple have been together for three years and were excited to welcome their first child into the world.

Maria experienced a difficult pregnancy, with severe morning sickness and heartburn but she eventually underwent a planned c-section on Thursday, June 30 and welcomed baby Gracie into the world.

"As soon as she was born the midwives and the surgeons started shouting: 'She's got teeth!'," Steve told Lancs Live.

"The doctors told us it was extremely rare, apparently it's like one in 2,000 babies that are born with teeth.

"The Paediatrician checked her over and was happy with everything, including the teeth."

Maria found out that she was 19 weeks pregnant in March.

Although the news was a surprise, both her and Steve were excited to have their first child together.

Steve said: "It wasn't the best of pregnancies, she had heart burn and quite bad morning sickness. It was also quite frustrating because the coronavirus stopped us going to get any scans or going to any classes."

Maria was a week overdue when she was offered a planned c-section for June 30 and she accepted.

Baby Gracie was born at Blackpool Victoria Hospital weighing 7lb 1oz.

She is a completely healthy baby but even the doctors can't explain her three gnashers.

Steve said: "I asked the midwife if we should brush them and she said we should Google it, she had no idea. Nobody knows too much about it, we've tried searching around but there's not too much out there about natal teeth."

Most babies start teething between the ages of four months and six months while late developers can take up to a year to teeth.

According to the British Dental Association, about one in 2,000 babies are born with teeth present above the gum line at birth, known as natal teeth.

They are often loose because the roots are not properly developed.

Thankfully Gracie's pearly whites have done nothing to dampen her spirits or her appetite.

"She's pretty content," said Steve.

"She's a hungry baby and we've got the midwife coming round tomorrow to do a follow up so hopefully everything is ok."

"Gracie looks to be close to you and she gives you the odd smile here and there. She's a beautiful baby."
