Homicide investigation launched after baby's death in north Brisbane

Police established a crime at the home on Handford Road at Zillmere.

Queensland Police have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a three-month-old girl who died in hospital after being found unconscious at a home in Brisbane's north.

Emergency services were called to a disturbance at a residence on Hanford Road, Zillmere just before 6:00am on Saturday.

The baby was found unresponsive and taken to Prince Charles Hospital where she later died.

Police are treating her death as suspicious and are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage from along Hanford Road between 4:30am and 6:30am to come forward.

A crime scene has been established at the home, and a major investigation centre has been established at Boondall Police Station.

Police said no arrests have been made.

Earlier, police Commissioner Katarina Carroll confirmed the child had died.

"We have all our expert police out there looking at it at the moment, but I don't know exactly what the cause is … there's a lot more to do," she said.

When asked if the child was found unconscious in their cot, she said "not aware of that, nor have I asked, because it's early days".

"We always treat it suspiciously — that will always be the case until we know what the cause of death was. That's obviously what we need to get first," she said.

"The investigation, until we find the cause of death, definitely does continue and we need to take this very seriously."
