Baby found at recycling plant died with no name as mum still not traced 9 months on

The mum of a baby girl found dead at a recycling centre has not been traced, nine months after the tragic tot was discovered.

The baby's body was found wrapped in a pink towel by horrified staff at the Bradford waste facility on August 20 last year.

Officers made a desperate plea to find the mum of the girl who was believed to have been found stillborn by council staff.

Despite efforts to track her down an inquest heard that no one had come forward, Yorkshire Live reports.

After 'exhaustive inquiries' over many months by West Yorkshire Police, neither the girl nor her parents had been identified, the inquest was told.

Coroner's officer Christopher Dalby said: "An unknown baby girl that was wrapped in a towel was located at the council recycling plant.

"Paramedics were called and the death was confirmed at the scene.

"Police are continuing with their inquiries and at this stage, the identity of both baby and mother remain unknown."

A post mortem examination was unable to establish the cause of the baby girl's death.

Assistant coroner Mary Burke said the baby's body could now be released to allow for a funeral to take place.

She said: "I note the police are ongoing with some additional inquiries and in due course will provide a full report with regard to their conclusion."

The inquest was adjourned until August 25 to allow police to conclude the investigation and prepare a report.

In August last year, police released an appeal for help to trace the girl's mum.

Investigators said they believed she is likely to be from Bradford.

West Yorkshire Police had shared an image of a beach towel in a bid to trace the mother.

She had been wrapped in a towel which depicted the island of Fuerteventura. There were various pictures associated with tropical locations on the towel also including fish, sea horses and a palm tree.

An examination revealed that the baby was believed to be stillborn, according to reports.
