Baby Chloe could die as liver transplant called off due to coronavirus pandemic

A family is in a race against time to save a tot whose liver transplant was called off due to the pandemic.

Chloe Green, 14 months, will die if she does not get a new organ. She was due to have part of her uncle’s.

The Greens, from Bognor Regis, West Sussex, are now ringing around specialist hospitals begging for help.

Mum Emma said: “She doesn’t deserve this. The pandemic is horrendous but we are terrified it has taken our baby’s chance at life. We will fight all the way.”

Chloe was born with heart problems. The organ’s position in her chest also caused her liver to stop draining bile properly.

Emma said: “She had heart surgery at one week but the main issue is the liver.”

Chloe had been receiving treatment at King’s College London, which said Birmingham Children’s Hospital should do her op.

But Emma said: “In March they told us they were cancelling because of the outbreak and actually, considering she had had heart problems, they now did not see fit to do the procedure at all.”

Chloe is now in lockdown in hospital in Southampton but medics in Leeds told the family this week they were “prepared to assess” her.

Emma said: “It isn’t a yes but it isn’t a no and we will take what we can. We want to give our girl a chance.”
