Baby boy mauled by dog in park and flown to hospital

Police have launched an investigation after a baby was mauled by a dog in a park.

The 17-month-old boy has been flown to hospital by air ambulance following the horror attack this afternoon.

Officers said the toddler was savaged ed by the animal in Bootle at about 1.25pm.

The child suffered a leg injury after being bitten in Marian Gardens, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Police confirmed the dog has since been tracked down and seized and its owner will be questioned.

A Merseyside police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to reports that a baby had been attacked by a dog in New Park Court on Bridge Lane in Bootle today.

"At around 1.25pm police received reports that a 17-month-old baby boy was bitten on the leg by a dog.

"The baby has been taken to hospital by air ambulance to be treated for a non-life threatening leg injury.

"The dog has been seized and its owner will be questioned by police. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

Some witnesses claimed the boy was playing on a swing when the dog attacked.

However police had not confirmed that detail.
