Baby boy found on Wirral golf course still not laid to rest

The baby boy found on a golf course in Wirral has yet to be laid to rest.

On Friday, January 29 this year, Brackenwood golf course in Bebington became an eerie scene as police with touches searched the ground into the early hours.

It wasn't until Saturday, January 20 that Merseyside Police confirmed the tragic news they were investigating the death of a baby.

He was found unclothed with no immediately obvious injuries in a slight wooded area off a fairway near to the Mount Road side of the complex.

An appeal was launched for the baby's mother to come forward to help her and check on her welfare.

So far, no new information has come forward in the investigation and the search for his mum continues.

The ongoing investigation means the baby has not yet been laid to rest.

Roger Jones, from Laurence Jones Funeral Directors, had previously said the company would offer the service free of charge and reconfirmed that to the ECHO.

He said: "We have not heard anything at this point, but if we can help, we will. But sadly, we have not been able to as it is still an ongoing police investigation."

He also said it is understandable that people will want a chance to pay their respects after an outpouring of grief shown on social media.

Many have expressed the desire to visit the baby's final resting place, many uncomfortable with the idea the boy would have a funeral with no one in attendance.

DCI Blease said in January: "We are continuing to work closely with our partners to follow a number of potential lines of enquiry as we all know how important it is for us to find the baby’s mum and ensure she is safe and well and has the help and support that she needs.

“We know there has been a huge outpouring of sympathy from the local community and we have received offers of assistance and donations of clothing and blankets for the baby from local charities and bereavement groups. We are grateful but would ask that no further items are donated.

“I would continue to ask for anyone who has information to please come forward. It is vital that we are able to find the baby’s mum and reunite the baby with his family so that he can be put to rest.”

Anyone who has information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111.
