Police were called to Tottenham High Road around 10.50am yesterday after the boy was found in a critical condition.

He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11.39am.

Police described the child as a baby boy and said he was thought to be aged around 18-months.

Officers are investigating the death, which is being treated as unexplained, and no arrests have been made.

A Scotland Yard statement said: "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 10:51hrs on Thursday, 31 October to reports of a baby falling from height in High Road, N17.

"Officers, the London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade attended and found the baby boy in a critical condition. The child, believed to be aged 18 months, was taken to a north London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:39hrs.

"Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course."

A cordon is in place at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.

No arrests have been made.

London Ambulance Service confirmed it attended and said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and our hazardous area response team. London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched."
