Baby attacked by dog tragically died from neck and head wounds

A tragic baby girl attacked by a dog died from neck and head wounds, an inquest has heard.

Kyra Leanne King passed away on March 6, the hearing was told on March 30.

The provisional cause of death of the child in Lincolnshire was given in a statement by coroner's officer Jacqui Foxlow after a post-mortem examination, Grimsby Live writes.

Temporary Detective Inspector Calley Murray told assistant coroner Paul Cooper that a probe into what is being deemed a mauling remains "live".

Two people are now under investigation, he said, with police officers previously arresting a woman, 40, and man, 54, on suspicion of being in charge of an out-of-control pooch.

“Detectives are keeping an open mind as they investigate the circumstances,” he added.

The dog remains in isolation at a secure kennels, with officers due to seek an order to put it down, the court was told. Mr Cooper described Kyra’s death as a sad case with tragic consequences. He adjourned the hearing to a date yet to be fixed.

Speaking earlier this month, a Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "Our enquiries into the tragic case are continuing, but we can now say that we believe the three-month-old girl, who will not be named, died after sustaining injuries from an attack by a dog. The incident happened in the car park area of Ostler’s Plantation near Woodhall Spa.

"We believe the breed to be a Husky dog, and the animal is currently in isolation in kennels while forensic examinations are carried out. This remains a live investigation, and we are continuing to determine the circumstances which led to the baby girl’s death, and ask people not to speculate while we make those enquiries."
