A dad has warned people to stay home after his one-year-old son started suffering from Covid-19 symptoms after a singular trip to Tesco.
Peter Jones explained how his son is in hospital recovering from a coronavirus infection, with the family spending three weeks in isolation.
The Devon dad believes that he brought the virus back to their home after a single trip to the supermarket.
While three of the family recovered quickly, he wrote on his Twitter page, Peter's youngest son was less fortunate and needed hospital treatment.
"After a short stay in hospital our baby boy has recovered quickly with the help of oxygen and antibiotics for the infection," he posted.
"He is now recovering at home. A huge thanks to our GP who reacted so quickly and to all (Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust Hospitals) who looked after him so well. They are true heroes.
"Thank you for all of the kind messages. I must say that we were unlucky, such a reaction in a young child is rare according to the doctors so people shouldn't worry and he did recover very quickly with the right support."
Peter hoped that the story of his son's infection following minimal contact with the outside world would serve as a caution to others.
He continued: "The reason I share something so personal is because I want people to know that just one trip out can risk it all. Please don't go out. Stay at home, and protect your loved ones."
Peter added: "I am concerned that my tweet has put many off going to the supermarkets but with no delivery slots this isn't an option for most.
"We were unlucky, the supermarkets are doing the best they can to protect all. We must try and limit visits and follow the guidance to limit risk.
"Whilst some debate going out at all, some are still travelling to beauty spots, parks and beaches. Please stay safe and please try to avoid going out as much as possible."
