Babar Azam goes past Virat Kohli, joins Hashim Amla as fastest to this landmark

Pakistan's batting great Babar Azam became the joint fastest to score 6000 ODI runs and the fastest in Asia during his knock against New Zealand in the tri-series final at the National Stadium in Karachi on Friday.

Babar scored 29 runs, continuing to bat as an opener in the tournament in the absence of injured Saim Ayub, before falling caught and bowled to Nathan Smith.

In an attempt to up Pakistan's scoring rate, Babar mistimed a shot to become the third Pakistan batter to fall, with the total reading 54/3 in the 12th over.

Before that, Babar completed his 6000 ODI runs in the seventh over of Pakistan innings, driving Jacob Duffy through the covers for four to reach the milestone in his 123rd innings -- same as former South Africa batter Hashim Amla.

The feat also took Babar past India's former captain and batting legend Virat Kohli, who until now was the fastest Asian batter to the mark, achieving it in 136 innings.

But Babar's poor run of form continued in this tri-series with scores of 10, 23 and 29 in the three matches, which remains a cause of worry for Pakistan going into the ICC Champions Trophy (CT) on home soil.

Pakistan will begin their CT campaign on February 19 against New Zealand.
