Baba Rahman joins Real Mallorca on loan after signing new Chelsea deal

Chelsea's Baba Rahman has completed a loan move to Real Mallorca until the end of the season, the Spanish club have confirmed.

The left back has also a signed a two-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge until June 2021 despite not being part of Frank Lampard's plans.

Rahman, 25, said that he is happy to sign for the newly-promoted La Liga side and looking forward to playing with fellow Ghanians Iddrisu Baba and Lumor Agbenyenu - and no wonder after Lampard said last week that he was so far from the first-team plans that he was not even training with the group at Cobham.

"At the middle of the conversation it's about finding the right path for him individually," Lampard said on Friday. "Maybe for him it is to go on loan to play regularly. He's not training with us at the moment, he's with the under-23s."

Rahman joined Chelsea from German club Augsburg in 2015 for an initial £14million fee but failed to make an impact. He has had two separate loan spells at Schalke and spent the second half of last season at Ligue 1 side Reims, playing 11 games.

He has made 22 appearances for Chelsea, his debut coming in a 4-0 Champions League win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in September 2015.
