B800 road to the west of Edinburgh will close overnight for urgent repairs to M9 bridge

A road to the west of Edinburgh will close overnight to allow urgent repair work on a motorway bridge to take place.

The work will begin on the M9 bridge over the River Almond at 8pm on Wednesday.

It will mean the B800 is closed overnight until 6am on Thursday.

Problems with the bridge were spotted in August when concrete began falling from the underside onto the carriage below, causing the road to shut for several days.

Amey SE Trunk roads, the company which maintains the bridge, say the work will benefit 15,000 vehicles which use the bridge each day.

Diversions will be put in place towards the A89 in both directions.

Amey said: "Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

"This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, and the City of Edinburgh Council."
