Customers who continue to drink in pubs after closing time for alcohol sales face fines of up to 10,000 baht from early November, the Department of Provincial Administration has warned.
The fine is set out in an amendment made to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, the department said.
Section 32 prohibits people from drinking alcoholic beverages after hours in premises where alcohol is available for either sale or consumption.
The law prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages from midnight to 11am and from 2pm to 5pm. All shops are prohibited from selling alcoholic drinks between 2pm and 5pm, except in designated venues such as international airports, hotels and licensed service establishments like bars.
The 10,000 baht fine is effective from Nov 8 onwards, the department said.
