B-schools only tell you how to get a job, says Ashneer Grover

Nothing seems to faze Ashneer Grover. Not the lawsuits for alleged cheating and embezzlement filed against him by BharatPe, the startup he co-founded. Not the dramatic exit from reality show Shark Tank India. Not even memes on his social media meltdowns.

“I have zero regrets,” he told a packed auditorium at the Times Litfest. Grover recalled the ups and downs of his journey, which he covers in his recently published memoir ‘Doglapan’. The book has garnered attention while the court case between BharatPe and Grover is underway.

Grover, who comes from a Punjabi family in south Delhi, said nobody he knew had started a business of their own. However, that did not stop him from stepping out of comfortable corporate jobs. “You have to punch above your weight if you have to grow,” he said.

Grover also reflected upon his days as a student at IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad. He highlighted the lack of training in entrepreneurial skills at Indian institutions. “The term B-school is a misnomer. They don’t teach you how to do business, they only tell you how to get jobs,” he said.
