B/R makes surprising pick for Vikings’ biggest flaw

The biggest weakness on the Vikings was obvious until now. In 2020 and several seasons before that, Minnesota could not protect the quarterback, especially from the interior of the offensive line.

Now, the Vikings have attempted to shore up the offensive line through the draft. Minnesota took Christian Darrisaw in the first round and Wyatt Davis in the third round, both of whom have a chance to start and improve the unit.

So what is Minnesota’s biggest flaw now that the offensive line seems better on paper? Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay has an interesting pick. Kay writes that it’s safety. Here’s what else he wrote:

“However, they didn’t manage to fix their issues at safety in the draft. They found a quality starter next to Harrison Smith in Xavier Woods, but both players will be free agents next year, and the Vikings lack young talent and depth at the position.

A handful of available players could both be developed and rotate in at the position, with safeties like Kavon Frazier and Tre Boston currently unsigned and likely obtainable for cheap.”

I still think the offensive line is probably more glaring of a weakness for the team. It’s not a given that Darrisaw and Wyatt Davis will just come in and be NFL ready. However, safety is something to watch, maybe not for 2021, but for seasons down the road.
