The Boston Celtics are going to have a very expensive roster at the start of the 2021-22 NBA season, and not a lot of tools to add talent to the roster as a result of their hefty payroll getting even heftier when All-NBA small forward Jayson Tatum‘s max rookie extension kicks in.
So it might surprise you to see the Celtics on a list predicting where all of this coming offseason’s top free agents might end up regarding where current Miami Heat guard Victor Oladipo will end up landing given the team will have as its best tool the taxpayer mid-level exception (MLE), estimated to be just over $6 million next season.
That doesn’t like the sort of contract that usually attracts a top free agent, so what gives?
