B&Q store in East Midlands closes after staff member tests positive for Covid-19

A B&Q store in the East Midlands has temporarily closed for a deep clean after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The Osmaston Park Road branch in Derby will be shut all day on Tuesday, May 19, and is not expected to reopen until Wednesday morning.

Derbyshire Live reports that, when a reporter arrived at the DIY shop on Tuesday morning, a security guard was seen flagging down customers' cars and telling them the store was shut until Wednesday.

A B&Q spokeswoman confirmed that a member of staff had tested positive for the virus.

She told Derbyshire Live: "We can confirm that our Derby store is temporarily closed following a team member receiving a positive Covid-19 test result.

"Closing the store for deep cleaning is a precautionary measure and goes beyond Government advice."

B&Q reopened more than 70 stores late last month, including in several across Nottinghamshire, when the National Police Chiefs Council said shoppers could return to buying tools and DIY supplies.

The branches reopened as part of a trial and saw perspex screens installed at checkouts, social-distancing markers throughout the shop, and a queuing system limiting the number of shoppers allowed inside at any one time.
