B&Q store given deep clean after staff member tested positive for coronavirus

B&Q has reopened a Wirral store after asking customers to leave immediately yesterday when a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

The store, based on Link Road in Wallasey, closed yesterday afternoon so it could undergo a deep clean, which the store described as a "precautionary measure".

In a statement issued by B&Q yesterday to the ECHO, a spokesperson said: "We can confirm that our Wallasey store is temporarily closed following a team member receiving a positive (Covid 19) test result.

"Closing the store for deep cleaning is a precautionary measure and goes beyond government advice."

Overnight, specialists were inside the store while the cleaning took place.

B&Q did not comment when asked when the worker's symptoms had become apparent.

In a new statement today, the spokesperson said: "We are unable to comment on specific cases due to our duties as an employer and under data protection”

No other B&Q is believed to be affected by the result of the test.

B&Q reopened stores last month with long queues often forming outside as homeowners stocked up on DIY products.

Inside stores a number of services are closed to protect staff and customers, such as kitchen and bathroom design, paint mixing, timber cutting and key cutting.

Other safety measures in place across B&Q stores include two metre floor markings and perspex screens at checkouts.
