B&M shopper who left carer in tears with 'spreading germs' remark is ICU nurse

Friends of an ICU nurse have jumped to her defence after she was identified as a woman who left a carer in tears in a B&M store.

Devastated key worker Kimberley Simpson shared a video of a woman she said had aggressively accused her of "spreading germs" which has since gone viral.

Kimberley, from Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, said the shopper had left her in tears all afternoon after the exchange.

Since the video was widely shared, the other woman in the video has been named as ICU nurse Marina Kendrick.

It reportedly led to mum-of-two Ms Kendrick receiving death threats - but pals say she was just trying to point out hygiene rules.

In a post of Facebook, friend Eunice Davies wrote: "Marina Kendrick is the most supportive and compassionate Senior Lecture of Nursing.

"She has years of professional nursing experience.

"She was 100% within her rights to challenge this individual who could well have been putting fellow shoppers and retail assistants at risk."

And Eunice continued: "All nurses /care staff should either change out of the uniform or cover it up when leaving work.

"I don’t want to stand next to someone who could’ve been changing soiled bed etc when I’m buying my food shopping."

A friend told the Daily Mail : "I have spoken to Marina and I know she is traumatised by what happened.

"She has had to delete all her social media due to the volume of hatred being directed against her."

The friend called the ignorance about her "stupefying", saying some had even called for her to be refused NHS treatment.

The video starts with an upset Kimberley shouting at the woman who stands behind her shopping trolley, saying: "I am filming you because you are having a go at me for buying stuff."

In the heated exchange, the woman identified as Ms Kendrick then replies: "I'm not having a go. I'm asking you why..."

Kimberley interrupts and says: "You just said that I am buying stuff that's non-essential stuff."

She then continues: "You are absolutely ridiculous you should not have come up to me aggressively like that, saying I am spreading germs."

The woman retorts, pointing at Kimberley: "You are, you are. You are still spreading germs, I am not talking about Covid..."

A bemused Kimberley then says: "What so I am not allowed to go in anywhere even before Corona?"

The woman replies: "No, no you are not."

Kimberley posted the clip following the exchange, along with a picture of her tear-stained face.

She shared the video with the caption: "I know I'm an ugly crier, but this lady has just followed me around B&M shouting at me saying I'm not allowed in the shop because I'm in uniform.

"Apparently I'm not allowed to buy non-essential items, (how does she know I'm not doing clients shopping).

"Apparently I spread germs before and after Corona, and she's reporting me to my manager who I've just spoken to, and they said I'm not doing anything wrong.

"We have worked so hard, no clients have Covid-19 so we are clearly doing something right.

"She shouted at me for a good 10 minutes before I decided to film her because she was following me.

"No staff in the shop helped me, no one stuck up for me, a Polish couple told me not to cry bless them and said she's stupid.

"I feel really disgusted at this lady's behaviour, I have done nothing wrong."

A Trust spokesperson said: “Neither of the people involved in the video clip are currently or have previously been employed at the Trust.

“Our staff have been given clear guidance about the correct procedure for the wearing and washing of uniforms and scrubs outside of work in line with the use of personal protective equipment.

“Our staff have been working hard to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus and we welcome the continued efforts of our communities in stopping the spread of infection.”
