B&M opening new stores across the UK and here's where they'll be

B&M is opening new stores while expanding others after several of its sites across the UK recently closed.

The popular bargain retailer, whose operational headquarters is in Liverpool, is opening six stores throughout April and May, three of which will be brand new stores while the other three will be relaunches of initial sites following expansions, the Mirror reports.

One new store is planned for Liverpool, while a second new site is just a short drive away from the city.

The three brand new stores set to open include a new site in Widnes, as well as another in Fazakerley on the site of a former Co-op. The third is set for Fforestfach in Swansea, with all three expected to open towards the end of May.

On the store openings, a B&M spokesperson said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store. We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door.”

The discount store closed three of its sites in March and plans for another to close in April. However, B&M told the Mirror the closures were not linked to the "diminishing high street" but were instead due to new stores opening and other external factors.

Discount stores such as B&M Bargains and Home Bargains have always been widely popular but since the cost of living crisis, many are turning to these types of retailers to cut costs.

The first store expansion planned is the retailer's unit at Riverside Retail Park in Fife with the doors for the upgraded site opening on April 29. The expansion was done following feedback from regular customers who said they wanted a larger shop with even more products to browse.

The Fife store will now be 21,512sqft and boast its own 3296sqft garden centre.

Other expansions will take place at B&M's Northern Ireland store, on Lonsdale Road in Armagh, and at the site in Jarrow which is undergoing a "major refit".
