B&M issues urgent Facebook scam warning to customers following fake LCD TV competition reports

B&M has issued an urgent scam warning to customers after a fake Facebook competition has begun circulating online.

A convincing Facebook page using the B&M logo and name posted about an LCD TV competition forcing the real budget retailer to respond, Birmingham Live reports.

B&M wrote on its actual Facebook page: "#COMPETITION update. We've received a few messages from some of our followers with information about an "LCD TV Competition" which has been popping up on Facebook.

"Unfortunately, this competition has NO affiliation with B&M - even though the page is using our logo, name and pictures.

"We'd kindly ask, if you see the page, to report it as a scam to Facebook and help to remove the account.

The post has been shared 466 times, as of the time of writing, by concerned B&M shoppers.

B&M added: "Furthermore, we'd never contact followers on any page other than this one; we'd never ask for personal details via any website, and all communication is carried out via the winners and our official competition email address (ending in @bmstores.co.uk)

"Thanks for your understanding, good luck in tonight's competition, and we appreciate all of your support and patience!"

B&M shoppers responded to the post thanking the retailer for the clarification and also warned people of other scams they have spotted.

One shopper commented: “I received a friend request from bm stores and said I've won the £25 voucher to spend in b+m but the sight to claim directed me to a movie site to register for free??”

Another added: "There are a lot of these scams on Facebook. Please be careful and don't give any bank or address details."

"I have blocked and reported the page," another penned.

Others said they had seen similar scams using other high street retailers and even supermarkets. Be careful and stay vigilant out there.
