B&M creates 200 jobs in Liverpool during coronavirus pandemic

Supermarket giant B&M has created an additional 200 jobs specifically for those who have been laid off during the  coronavirus  pandemic.

The budget-friendly retailer made the announcement today, March 19, that it has created an additional 200 jobs at its depot in Speke.

Priority will be given to those candidates who have been laid off due to Covid19.

The retailer, whose head office is based on Estuary Commerce Park in Speke, will be hiring an additional 200 local people in order to meet strong demand.

In the past week, B&M has served seven million customers and delivered more than 4.2 million cases of groceries to stores across the country.

Its warehouses are running 24/7 to cope with mounting demand, while stock is being delivered to stores on a daily basis.

Job roles are advertised on the B&M careers website and include picking, loading, unloading and FLT truck drivers within the modern distribution centre.

B&M CEO Simon Arora said: "We can imagine the hardship being faced by those who have lost their jobs due to Covid19, especially in the hospitality and travel industry.

“While our business experiences high demand, we're pleased to offer immediate job opportunities to some of those affected."

The news follows as stores across the country have been forced to close to try and tackle the outbreak of the deadly virus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the Government will do “whatever it takes” to support the economy through the coronavirus outbreak.
