'Azpilicueta confirmed!' - Arsenal fans predict first summer transfer after Chelsea's £56m 'bid'

Arsenal could be facing more transfer frustration, and the summer window hasn't even been open for a week yet.

Following a disappointing season, there is a lot riding on what business Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are able to get done ahead of the 2021/21 campaign.

As previously revealed by football.london, in terms of incomings the north London outfit are targeting up to five signings to improve Arteta's first-team squad.

However, Norwich City attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia won't be one of them.

The Gunners did hold a serious interest in the Argentine, even submitting a bid of more than £30million, but have been beaten to the punch by Aston Villa who have agreed a fee with the Canaries.

And it's not just Buendia whom Arsenal are set to miss out on.

Across London, Chelsea - fresh off winning the Champions League - are making plans to bolster their squad with the signing of Inter Milan defender Achraf Hakimi.

According to Sky, the Blues have matched Paris Saint-Germain's offer of €60m (£56m) for the Morocco international and all that remains is a reply from the Serie A champions.

Interestingly, Arsenal had been linked with a move for Hakimi as a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin who looks set to depart the Emirates Stadium at some point this summer.

So with reports of Chelsea making a bid for Hakimi, it's safe to say it hasn't gone down well amongst some Arsenal fans, with a couple predicting that Cesar Azpilicueta will become their first summer signing.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

@JoshVTH said: "Chelsea don’t even need Hakimi and we’ve been linked with him for how long. Arsenal could sign Messi I’m actually done with them. What is going on man."

@jasonnn1234 said: "Chelsea about to sign Hakimi, Haaland and the rest of the world. Meanwhile Arsenal are wondering if they should sign Bertrand or Ashley Cole on a free transfer."

@GoonerSwarny said: "By the end of the window they will end up with Hakimi, Halaand, Rice. @Arsenal wake up!"
